Lab work is an important part of what I do. As a functional medicine doctor I use a variety of lab tests to understand your body and put together a treatment plan that's just right for you. Not only do these tests help me gain understanding of your body, but they give us real, objective findings to monitor throughout your time with me and monitor your progress under my care.

Labs which I frequently use in my office include: Doctor's Data, Genova Diagnostics, Lipid Labs, Cyrex Labs, Diagnostechs, Dunwoody labs, SIBO testing, and more.

I order blood work on nearly every patient I see in my office. Examples include:

- CBC and Iron (anemia, white and red blood cells)
- Complete thyroid panel (and antibodies)
      - Much more than TSH!
- Vitamin D, Vitamin A, RBC Magnesium
- Viral titers (including EBV and CMV)
- Glucose, insulin
- Autoimmune antibodies
- Urinalysis

  • Most of the time these tests can be ordered through your insurance. I will give you a list of questions to ask your insurance company to confirm this. If it will be too expensive to use the insurance we also have the option to use a cash-pay co-op.

Certain hormones are best measured in saliva. This is partially because saliva is a more accurate way to measure these hormones, but more importantly it allows us to do multiple readings without poking you full of holes! This means we can establish a pattern and reach a better diagnosis. Female hormones vary according to the time in the cycle, cortisol and male hormones vary according to the time of day.

Examples of salivary hormone tests include:
- Female hormones (estrogen, etc)
- Male hormones (testosterone)
- Cortisol (adrenal stress testing)

Some tests can be done via a finger prick* test.

Omega 6 to Omega 3 ratio gives us great insight into:
  • - How much Omega 3 you should be taking
  • - What type of Omega 3 you should take
  • - The necessity of dietary modification you need
