This is a common barrier for some of the patients in my practice as well. It can be frustrating to pay out of pocket to see a functional medicine practitioner and it's disheartening that traditional health insurance doesn't cover most holistic treatments. But discovering the root cause of your illness and truly managing (or even reversing) your symptoms-- that is priceless. With my own autoimmune disease, I have saved tens of thousands of dollars by taking a functional medical approach--and that is only in the two years since I've changed my diet and lifestyle. And you can't put a price tag on finally being able to take control of my health! Great post, Dr. Dinezza!

Thank you, Katy! Yes, I agree 100%- you really can't put a price tag on finally being in control of your health. You also can't put a price tag on knowledge and finally knowing why your body reacts the way it does.

Yeah, it's sad that not more people know about this type of care or that they need it. On the other hand, it is really cool to take a regular person and turn them into a health-conscious granola type ;) It's like showing a muggle Hogwarts and telling them they can be a wizard, too!
